Geography

Intrusive igneous rocks are formed when magma cools within the earth's crust, forming course-grained rocks with large crystals, an example of such rocks are granite and gabbro. Extrusive igneous rocks are formed when lava cools and solidifies on the earth's surface, due to rapid cooling, fine-grained rocks with fine crystals are produced, ab example of such rocks are basalt and obsidian.

Sedimentary rock are formed when sediments are deposited on a sea bed and compacted by the overlying layers which form sedimentary rocks. Sedimentary rocks contain remains of plants,animals and a seashell and grain size, colour, texture depends on the size of the original rocks. An example of such rocks are limestone and shale.

Metamorphic rocks are formed when igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks or even other metamorphic rocks are subjected to intense heat and pressure caused by crustal movement in which the rocks are compacted by layers of plateau. An example of such rocks are granite -> gneiss, shale --> slate, granite/slate --> schist
